Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Recently, the game developers introduced a fresh playlist titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but features several key adjustments:

  • Each team has only 8 human participants, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities performed by human gamers award full XP, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, this mode lives up to its name: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it provides additional choices for players looking for alternative methods to enjoy the title. However, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many Battlefield 6 players are upset.

Community Responses: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer real players. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," while another lists everything they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and can't play this game 24/7. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Criticisms and Player Input

Despite the support, players have valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it could increase wait times even longer for other modes because of the large amount of options in the game already. Similarly, some areas often face mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the system. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the community compromising in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. Another labels this addition as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?

Should the development team has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to change it again.
