Car Evading Police Smashes into Tampa Bar, Leaving Four Dead and 11 Injured

An speeding car while fleeing police slammed into a busy bar early on Saturday, claiming the lives of four individuals and wounding eleven in a historic neighborhood of Tampa, renowned for its nightlife and tourists.

Aerial patrol team with the local police department observed the vehicle driving recklessly on a highway at about 12.40am after authorities said the light-colored car had been seen street racing in a different area, as per a police department statement.

The state highway patrol caught up with the car and attempted to perform a tactic that involves striking a rear fender of a fleeing vehicle to cause it to lose control, called a pit, but it was unsuccessful.

State police officers “disengaged” as the vehicle sped toward the vintage downtown district near downtown, Tampa police reported. Ultimately, the driver lost control of the car and struck more than a dozen individuals near the establishment, police confirmed.

3 victims perished at the scene and a fourth victim died at a hospital. By the next day, a fifth victim was admitted in serious condition, and eight other victims were being treated at area hospitals but were listed as stable, police said. 2 additional individuals experienced slight injuries and refused medical aid at the scene. Every one of the 15 victims are grown individuals.

“The incident this morning was a pointless tragedy, our hearts are with the families of the deceased and all those who were impacted,” the Tampa police chief expressed in a statement.

Officers identified the suspect as 22-year-old the individual, who was booked on Saturday and is being held at the Hillsborough county jail.

Legal records indicated the suspect has been charged with 4 charges of vehicular homicide and 4 charges of serious fleeing or eluding with serious bodily injury or death. All are serious felonies. No attorney was recorded for the accused.

“The community is mourning this loss,” remarked Tampa’s mayor, previously served as Tampa’s initial woman top cop, in a post on social media.
“My thoughts are with everyone affected. Official inquiries into this crash is continuing, and we are working to get explanations,” she wrote.

Lately, certain regions and municipal authorities have pushed to limit the employment of high-speed car chases to protect both civilians and police. Following a increase in fatalities, a recent study funded by the US justice department recommended law enforcement pursuits to be minimized, explaining that the risk to individuals, officers and bystanders often exceeds the urgent need to apprehend a suspect.

However, Florida has intensified efforts on the methods, with the state’s highway patrol amending its guidelines to relax restrictions on the application of car chases and pit maneuvers. The justice department-backed report characterized these tactics as “dangerous” and “debated”.
