Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.

Law enforcement report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.

The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they reported.

Law enforcement then located multiple other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police report early analysis indicate the liquid was likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no lead as to its source; authorities are currently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they commented.

Municipal representatives stated they were working "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for details.

An important political figure said the incident made him speechless and had to be resolved quickly.

"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, recalling the death of nine people by a gunman aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
