Fans Call for Detainment of Man Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal supporters of Ariana Grande are urging that a individual who breached a barrier and touched the actress during Thursday's Wicked: For Good launch be arrested or removed from Singapore.
A circulating footage shows the person identified as Johnson Wen pushing past camera operators and lunging at Grande while the cast made its way down a yellow carpet flanked by supporters.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo immediately pulled the stunned performer away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being led away of the event by guards.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "let go after being arrested", though court documents indicated that he was set to attend court on the following morning. It is unknown if he was formally accused.
Pattern of Disruptions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a performance. His Instagram account features videos of him disrupting other star-studded functions, including breaching the performance area at the pop singer's Sydney performance in recently and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers performance in the same location last winter.
"Measures must be taken applied against him as this is obviously a punishable act," stated an Instagram follower, in a reply to a video Mr Wen shared of his act.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" another Instagram user wrote.
Followers Express Concern Over Ariana's Past Trauma
Numerous supporters criticized Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had discussed suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a suicide bomb attack at the conclusion of her 2017 concert in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and wounding many.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" commented a further response on Instagram.
Some fans also questioned guards at the gathering for not being vigilant enough; while some demanded digital services to block Mr Wen's uploads.
Aftermath and Event Details
In videos spreading on the internet, Grande looked surprised when she was grabbed by the man. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen consoling her while Mr Wen was removed by security.
Grande has not commented on the incident, and the premiere activities proceeded as normal.
Many of fans had gathered in a crowd of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good regional launch in a Singapore mall, including several who had queued for as long as eight hours before it commenced.
The motion picture, to be launched on 21 November, is the follow-up of a dual version of the acclaimed Broadway and West End show Wicked, which revolves around the unlikely relationship between two distinct characters.
The show itself is a derivative of the classic book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the good witch Glinda, was dressed in a champagne pink glittering gown at the premiere while Erivo, who portrays the wicked witch, wore a elegant ensemble embroidered with roses.
They were joined by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the top-earning film of the previous year in the UK, and received a dozen award recognitions, winning a pair for excellent wardrobe and artistic direction.
