Iran Reports Attack on US Base in Bahrain, During Regional Counterattacks.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and continuing offensive against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area close to the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any impact is uncertain and the United States has not commented.
Missile Defenses Activated
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting American military installations - stated they have shot down missiles in their airspace.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had intercepted several missiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on Iran carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That US-Israeli operation - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on sites associated with the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump encouraging the people of Iran to revolt against the government.
Additional Developments
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the projectiles with notable success and shot down a several projectiles," the statement continued.
Officials reported debris fell on a residential area in Abu Dhabi, causing some structural damage and fatalities.
The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
