Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL side.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major uplift to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be gathering momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
