Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was natural for doubts to be asked about his position following a further convincing defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their ninth loss in twelve matches, representing the team's worst streak since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got a lot of support from management,” Slot stated.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's expected that people question you.”
He added, “I am OK with my role. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Discussions with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me constantly of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “In the normal exchanges I feel the belief. But I've not talked to them after this match yet so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Failings and Player Reaction
Slot highlighted recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European loss, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his view of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” Jones stated.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a phase such as this with outcomes like these.”
He finished, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And until that badge is gone, we will always fight.”
“Our aim is to help the side back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the top club in the world.”
“But right now, things are bad and it needs to change.”
