The English Team to Launch UEFA Euro 2028 Campaign at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium

England’s men’s team will initiate their UEFA Euro 2028 adventure at the Etihad Stadium, provided that they achieve the anticipated qualification for a tournament taking place in most of the United Kingdom and the Irish Republic.

Manchester City’s home ground has not hosted an English men’s game since eight years ago, when the visitors were beaten 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is almost certain to stage the England side for their opening fixture on Saturday 10 June 2028.

England are planned to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley Stadium, but, should they win the preliminary round, their knockout stage opener would occur at the Newcastle stadium. Placing second would mean beginning the elimination stage at Everton’s ground.

Championship Launch and Rally

The championship was launched at an event in a London landmark on the previous evening. High-ranking officials from the tournament organizers and the host football associations were confronted as they entered the location by approximately 50 activists, who called for the Israeli team to be removed from global football because of the conflict in Gaza.

Placards were raised with messages reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists chanted: “Kick Israel out.”

Event Timeline

The first match of Euro 2028 will be staged at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, on Friday 9 June, a match that will involve the Dragons if they qualify.

Wembley Stadium will host the two semi-final matches and the title decider, which will be held on Sunday 9 July with a commencement at late afternoon.

It is hoped that an afternoon start, which will also be adopted for European club finals from the following campaign, will appeal to family audiences and help reach a more diverse set of viewers.

Host Nations

The Irish team are set to play their initial fixture at the Dublin Arena and the Scottish team would do the same at the national stadium of Scotland.

Each host nation’s squad will take part in the qualification process; two reserved places will be set aside for any that do not reach the tournament through the qualification path.

Stadiums and Knockout Stage

Aston Villa’s stadium and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium finalize the event’s nine venues. Every stadium will hold at least one knockout match, with the quarterfinal matches staged at each country’s national stadium.

The qualifying draw will be staged in the Northern Irish capital, which was dropped as a tournament location last year when it emerged Casement Park could not be upgraded in time, on 6 December 2026.

Tournament Vision

“This will be a competition for the followers and a celebration of everything we love about the game – its emotion and ability to unite individuals.”

Over 3 million admissions, a all-time high for a men’s European Championship, are anticipated to be offered to fans.
